Foreign trade with non-EU countries

Istat presents preliminary data on Italy's foreign trade with non-EU countries in January 2017. The results of the survey on total foreign trade in January 2017 will be disseminated on coming 17 March.

In January 2017, exports to non-EU countries increased by 19.7% and imports increased by 22.3% compared with the same month of the previous year. The trade balance showed a deficit of 889 million euro (Table 1) compared with a 486 million euro deficit in the same month of 2016. Excluding energy, the trade balance presented a surplus of 2,314 million euro (Table 3) compared with a 1,347 million euro surplus in January 2016.

In January 2017, in seasonally-adjusted terms, exports increased by 2.8% and imports increased by 1.7% compared with December 2016. Over the last three months, seasonally-adjusted data showed a 5.9% increase in outgoing flows and a 8.2% increase in incoming flows in comparison with the previous three months.
